The report Radiography of Mental Health in Romania is a project developed by MINDCARE FOR ALL Association, based on data from the Eurobarometer 530 (European Commission, 2023). This document provides a comprehensive and evidence-based analysis of the state of mental health in Romania, shedding light on the challenges, inequalities, and perceptions that shape how our society understands and responds to psychological issues.

The research findings show that:

• nearly half of Romanians (42%) have faced mental health difficulties in the past year;
• over 60% have not sought professional help;
• high costs, fear of judgment, and lack of trust in available services remain the main barriers to accessing support;
• stigma against people facing mental health problems persists at social, educational, and even medical levels.

The report explores four key dimensions:

1. The state of mental health and differences across demographic groups;
2. Access to and quality of psychological and psychiatric support services;
3. Social perceptions and stigma, which prevent people from seeking help;
4. Policy recommendations and community-based interventions grounded in scientific data.

Why does this report matter? ”Radiography of Mental Health in Romania” goes beyond mere analysis. The MINDCARE FOR ALL Association proposes a five-pillar action model with concrete recommendations for improving mental health in Romania, based on the report’s conclusions, European best practices, and evidence from specialized studies:

1. The need for a national strategy dedicated to mental health
2. Strengthening governance in the field of mental health
3. A national strategy to combat stigma related to mental health
4. Prevention and education in mental health
5. Improving accessibility and developing mental health services
